OMG! What a #LearningFirst year we have had…
I have been inspired to write this, having just read Simon Kidwell’s blog here:
2016 has been my twitter awakening, my social media Arab spring, my online virtual epiphany. My profile shows that I joined twitter back in 2009 and kept under the radar by interacting with friends and sporadically following cycling and education news. I was far more active on the school twitter feed @hartfordhead .
It has been an incredible year for Dame Alison and myself. This time, last year, we had no idea what was about to face us in 2016. From that first tweet in February 2016, we have seen something of a phenomenon happen in our profession. Hundreds and hundreds of education professionals have joined together to form a positive movement for change, and in a very short space of time, change has started to happen.
There is an optimism, and a generosity, in the #LearningFirst community that is, quite simply, infectious. A collective, positive and generous spirit that gives hope and confidence to its growing body of members.
Alison, of course, will take up her new post in January, and I know that the whole, entire #LearningFirst community will get behind her, to ensure that the new Chartered College is the success we know it can be.
#LearningFirst events will continue for as long as there is a need. There will be some very small back office changes to account for Alison’s move to her new role but she has promised to continue to attend as many conferences as she possibly can.
We currently have the following conference dates for next year:
Saturday, 28th January 2017 – #LearningFirst Canterbury
Saturday, 28th January 2017 – Secondary mixed attainment maths conference, Birmingham
Saturday, 24th June 2017 – #LearningFirst Torbay
Friday, 30th June 2017 – #LearningFirst Edge Hill
There are tentative plans for other #LearningFirst conferences in the Spring Term too but we are not quite ready to share those dates.
@BeyondLevels is increasingly being asked to support satellite type events, hosted by other members of the community. If any of our members have an idea for an event, just let me know. We have an enormous number of generous hosts that we can approach from small schools halls to huge lecture theatres. If you feel that there is a need in your local area, or in your particular subject or phase etc. just shout – happy to help in any way I can.
Which just leaves me to thank you all – Dame Alison and all of our generous hosts, speakers and sponsors this year. You have all being truly amazing, and there is no question that we would not have been able to do what we have, without you all.
And, finally to all of our #LearningFirst_ers. What a team you are!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
with much love
